Tips For Your Trips To The Tanning Salon

A tanning salon can be an easy and effective option for allowing individuals to maintain a nice, even tan on their skin. While a trip to the tanning salon can be a routine occurrence for many people, there are some common mistakes that are often made by individuals that can compromise the results of their tanning session.

Do Shower Before And After Tanning

Showering before you go to the tanning bed may seem unnecessary, but it can help to remove any dirt or excess oils that could block some of the ultraviolet light that tans the skin. As a result, a person may find that their results are more inconsistent than what they had envisioned. In addition to showering before you tan, it is also useful to shower immediately after the tanning session (depending on the type of tan you get). This will remove any oils or tanning products that were applied to the skin. Rinsing these substances off the skin can prevent them from blocking pores or causing acne. If your schedule will prevent you from being able to shower immediately after tanning, you should use moist towelette to remove as much sweat and tanning product from your skin as possible.

Do Keep Your Tanning Sessions Short

Individuals will often want to get a dark and even tan as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this can lead to them staying in the tanning bed for too long during their first sessions. This can make it more likely that individuals will suffer sunburns or other problems that could be uncomfortable and compromise their tanning results. For the first few weeks that you are going to the tanning salon, you may want to keep the sessions limited to only a few minutes. This may not seem like enough, but it will allow you to develop a base tan that will eventually let you have longer tanning sessions.

Do Adjust Your Tanning Frequency Based On The Time Of Year

It is important to be mindful of the relationship that the time of the year will have to your tanning frequency. During the spring and summer months, you will want to dial back your trips to the local tanning salon as you are likely to be getting considerably more sunlight exposure during this time of the year. Otherwise, you could inadvertently over-tan your skin. In addition to decreasing your tanning frequency during the summer, it may be wise to do this during the middle of the winter as well. Otherwise, your tan may be dark enough to look out of place during the winter months.
